CIVIL AIR PATROL

Cadet Program and Senior Members

Civil Air Patrol was formed in 1941, just days before the Pearl Harbor attack. Members spotted a number of enemy submarines off the U.S. coastlines during World War II, and 64 CAP aviators lost their lives during the war.  CAP was designated as an auxiliary to the U.S. Air Force in 1947 following the creation of the branch as a separate armed service.

The Brookings Civil Air Patrol is an auxiliary of the United States Air Force in conjunction with the newly formed Guardians From Above (GFA), and maintains a state of readiness to respond promptly to any search and rescue needs in the Southern Oregon and Northern California area.

There are 57,000 volunteers serving in CAP nationwide, saving an average of 100 lives per year.  CAP has three focuses:  cadet programs, aerospace education, and emergency services.

In Brookings the CAP works jointly with Guardians From Above, as well as local law enforcement and the U.S. Coast Guard and its auxiliary.

Senior meetings are on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 6:30 pm and cadets meet every Monday at 7 pm at the Brookings Airport.
